Pulling under Chulman River completed at Power of Siberia gas pipeline
The pulling of the main string of the Power of Siberia trunk gas pipeline under the Chulman River has been completed. The customer is Gazprom transgaz Tomsk, the general contractor is STROYGAZMONTAZH, and the contractor is Podvodtruboprovodstroy (PTPS).
The crossing was made by a trench method: this method was recognized as the most efficient for a given terrain. Despite the fact that the length of the crossing over the Chulman was only 300 m, the preparation work lasted about six months. This is due to complex soils: the bottom of the Chulman consists of a rock, sandstone, granite, basalt, and even coal. In order to pull the string of the gas pipeline, it was necessary to develop with a hydraulic hammer a trench up to 9 m deep and 6 m wide.
Up to 100 people and about 20 units of construction equipment, like excavators, bulldozers, pipelayers, were involved in laying the gas pipeline. Divers took part in the works to examine the bottom before pulling and the trench after completion of works.
Constructors had to act in a short time to complete the crossing before the spawning season of fish (in the Chulman there are taimen, grayling, burbot, etc.). For 6 days, the staff of PTPS pulled 4 strings weighing 100 tons each. It is planned that the reserve string of the gas pipeline will be laid across the river in October this year.
