Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas transportation system

Bovanenkovo – Ukhta gas transportation system (GTS) has been constructed to transport natural gas from Bovanenkovo field to the central regions of Russia and then to European customers. Execution of the Project is one of the top priority milestones for the Yamal Peninsula’s commercial development. Its GTS will become the key connection point of the Unified Gas Supply System providing gas supply of 300 bln m3 from the Peninsula’s fields.

Customer: CJSC Yamalgazinvest
  • Gas pipeline length: 1100 km
  • Pipe diameter: 1420 mm
  • Pressure: 11.8 MPa
  • Design capacity: 140 billion m³ per year

Bovanenkovo – Ukhta trunk gas pipeline is noted for a unique combination of operational parameters: it was designed for operating pressure of 11.8 MPa from high-strength pipes of the next generation with a diameter of 1 420 mm and wall thickness of up to 33.4 mm. These innovative technological solutions allowed increasing the pipeline capacity more than twofold.

STROYGAZMONTAZH is responsible for the construction in Yamal of seven sections of the 2nd string of the Bovanenkovo with the total length of approximately 200 km.

During the construction of this route, which passes through the peninsula and runs to the Baydaratskaya bay, a crossing was made under the Mordy-Yaha river. The main and backup pipe strings of 400 m long (each) were laid. A ring-type thermal insulation was installed on some parts of the gas pipeline, thus its diameter comes to 1620 mm.

The construction is carried out in severe climatic conditions of the Far North with almost complete lack of infrastructure and at a significant distance from procurement bases.

All sections of the trunk gas pipeline, which have to be constructed by STROYGAZMONTAZH, cross the territory of continuous distribution of permafrost grounds.

Two compressor stations were constructed: Intinskaya CS and Baydaratskaya CS. Baydaratskaya CS is located beyond the Arctic Circle, thus it’s the northernmost Russian station.

All sections of the trunk gas pipeline, which have to be constructed by STROYGAZMONTAZH, cross the territory of continuous distribution of permafrost grounds.

According to the schedule the works related to the construction of the 2nd string of Bovanenkovo – Ukhta GTS have to be completed in 2016.
