The trunk gas pipeline is constructed to connect onshore processing facilities (OPF) of Kirinsky gas condensate field (GCF) and the main compressor station Sakhalin, from which starts the Sakhalin — Khabarovsk — Vladivostok gas transportation system (GTS).
OPF of Kirinskoye GCF — Sakhalin GCS gas pipeline is designed for gas coming not just from Kirinskoye field, but also from other fields of Sakhalin III. Its length (including backup line) accounts for 148 km. The General Subcontractor of the project is Lengazspetsstroy JSC.
Gas pipeline route to the Sakhalin Island (the region of increased seismic activity) passes through 4 zones of active tectonic faults, across swamp lands (over 60% of the area) and hillside lands. All that factors were considered when choosing construction methods. Special attention should be paid to the crossing over the Nabil river, because its streambed is in an active tectonic fault. Here gas pipeline makes its landfall and then passes through the special bridge to the other bank. Total length of the aboveground crossing is near 360 m. Over 10 water crossings all together were built during construction phase, including three HDD crossings (by means of horizontal directional drilling technology) and one aboveground crossing.
